2023 Pastoral Report Rev. Pierre Tang

Our theme in 2023 was "Renewing the Mind. Fanning the Flame." This theme comes from the Book of Romans, "Do not be conformed to this world but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what the will of God is, what is good and acceptable and perfect" (Romans 12:2, ESV). Throughout the year, our pastors, admin staff, deacons, ministry groups and fellowships have been supporting one another in navigating through the challenges/opportunities from the post-COVID environment, together with a shortage of staff and a growing church.

Pastoral and Administrative Staff

• The Lord has been gracious to our pastoral and administrative staff, who have served diligently and faithfully as a team. We are thankful that He grants us unity. Our team consisted of Rev. Pierre Tang, Rev. Richard Choy, Pastor Rosita Lee, Rev. Brian Wong, Rev. Joel Tang, Pastor Lionel Lam, Pastor Edmond Chung, Shaya Zhang, Tiyah Mah, Dr. Puiwing Wong, Yvonne Lau, Cherry Lam, Wilson Chung, James Leung and Leo Wu. I want to take this opportunity to thank each one of them for their dedication and labour of love serving in NYCBC.

• We are grateful to have Wai Ling Pang, Lana Hu, James Lam, Suet-man Yeung, Matthew Luong and Suzan Ng serving as interns in different congregations. May the Lord bless their learning journey and continue to equip them to serve in the long run!

• Shaya Zhang concluded her contract as Family Ministry – Children Ministry Assistant on June 25th. She would continue her studies at Tyndale. Pastor Rosita Lee retired from full-time ministry after more than 20 years serving in NYCBC on December 31st. After retirement, she will continue to attend our church. We all sincerely thank both Shaya and Pastor Rosita for their faithful service.

Body of Christ

• The CSC Pastoral Team has met regularly to coordinate the resources to welcome newcomers from Hong Kong. It was both a challenge and an opportunity to accommodate these many believers from different denominational backgrounds in Hong Kong to fit in our NYCBC spiritual heritage and Baptist distinctiveness. Nevertheless, by God’s grace, most believers already felt at home at NYCBC and began sharing the Gospel with their non-believer friends and families. We also thanked God for resuming the 9:30 am CSC Sunday Worship in September and for establishing two new fellowships, Noah Fellowship and Daniel Fellowship.

• In ESC, Rev. Richard Choy led a Shepherd Group. This group of brothers was studying how God provides and calls shepherds (leaders) for His people so that they may lead the flock well. It was a long-term spiritual leadership development initiative in ESC.

• MSC had two foci: one was to rebuild the cell groups, and the other was to develop the consolidated MSC ministry group. We had Rev. Bob Lo conduct an intensive cell group leaders training in February, and Rev. Chi-Hung Siu spoke on and led practical Bible devotion and meditation exercises in November. MSC has been going through a healing process. We continue to pray for forgiveness and reconciliation.

• In Family Ministry, Dr. Teresa Tong, founder of the Blessing4CM ministry, has completed her consultation service for our Children Ministry. She submitted the assessment/vision casting report for NYCBC. Thanks Dr. Tong for her insightful observations and for sharing her children's ministry experience. To help strengthen the bond between parents and teens, Family Ministry has launched a relationship education & enhancement program, named "Families with Teens: Hold Me Tight® Let Me Go". James Lam (ESC member) was the coordinator of this program.

Experiencing God Together

• In the past year, many things have happened to our brothers and sisters personally. Some became believers in Christ and got baptized, visited family members in Hong Kong, Taiwan and the Mainland, and new arrivals in Canada. Yet some were sick, lost their jobs, and their loved ones passed away. NYCBC, a spiritual family, together we are here to walk with one another and share our joy and tears. People also yearn for spiritual companions rather than more church activities.

• Lastly, we celebrated the genuine passion of CSC, ESC and MSC brothers and sisters for outreach, evangelism and discipleship. In the forthcoming and uncertain economic and political situations facing everyone, let us uphold NYCBC's purpose together:

North York (Chinese) Baptist Church exists to glorify God, be used by Him to bless the Greater Toronto Area with the Gospel of Christ, to cultivate a united fellowship living in a loving community (marked by distinct disciple-making people groups) nurturing growth in Christ and spiritual maturity and, in collaboration with other Christians, reach out to our city and the world beyond.

2023年教牧報告 鄧天太牧師

2023年的教會主題是「心意更新，薪火相傳」。這個主題來自《羅馬書》，「不要效法這個世界，只要心意更新而變化，叫你們察驗何為神的善良、純全、可喜悅的旨意」《羅馬書》12章2節。在過去一年裡，我們的牧者、行政同工、執事、事工組及團契都彼此扶持，去面對從後疫情、同工短缺及增長的教會所帶來的挑戰和機會。

教牧及行政同工

• 主一直恩待我們的教牧和行政同工，眾同工都是帶著團隊精神，以殷勤和忠心去事奉主。 感謝主保守我們有合一的心。我們的同工團隊有鄧天太牧師、蔡思恩牧師、李梁煥芳傳 道、王建革牧師、鄧浩然牧師、林香德傳道、鍾皞軒傳道、張樂信姊妹、馬芝翹姊妹、王 沛榮博士、劉郭佩仙女士、鍾林靄慈女士、鍾聲華弟兄、梁志雄弟兄及吳敏弟兄。我要在 此感謝每一位同工對北約家的委身和付出愛心的勞苦。

• 我們感激龐慧玲姊妹、胡曉嵐姊妹、藍子星弟兄、楊雪敏姊妹、梁丹弟兄及吳雪新姊妹分 別在不同的會眾中擔任實習傳道。願主賜福他們的學習旅程及繼續裝備他們作長久的事 奉！

• 張樂信姊妹在 6 月 25 日完成家庭事工—兒童事工助理的延長合約期。她會繼續在天道神 學院進修。李梁煥芳傳道於 12 月 31 日從北約超過二十年的的全時間事奉退休。她退休後 將會繼續在本會聚會。我們衷心感謝樂信及李傳道的忠心事奉。

基督的身體

• 粵語堂的教牧團隊一直有定期的會議，去協調各樣資源，用以歡迎來自香港的新移民。要 讓這些來自香港不同宗派背景的信徒，融入我們北約家的屬靈產業和浸信會的特色，既是 挑戰也是機遇。無論怎樣，藉著神的恩典，大多數信徒在教會已經有了家的歸屬感，並開 始與他們的非信徒朋友和家人分享福音。我們也為粵語堂早堂崇拜於 9 月重開及挪亞團契 和但以理團契的成立感謝神。

• 在英語堂，蔡思恩牧師帶領一個 "牧養小組"。該組的弟兄正在學習神如何為祂的子民供應 並呼召牧者（領袖），讓他們可以很好地帶領會眾。這是關乎英語堂長期屬靈領袖發展的 開始。

• 國語堂有兩個重點：重建細胞小組，和發展合併之後的國語堂事工組。我們邀請了羅祖澄 牧師在 2 月主持一次密集的細胞小組領袖培訓，及 11 月有蕭智雄牧師教導聖經靈修操 練。國語堂一直在經歷著癒合的過程，我們繼續為饒恕與復和祈禱。

• 在家庭事工方面，Blessing4CM 事工的創始人湯邱佩華傳道博士已完成對我們兒童事工的 顧問服務。她已經提交了對北約的評估／異象策進報告。感謝湯博士充滿洞見的觀察及分 享她過去參與兒童事工經驗。為著增強家長與青少年子女的關係，家庭事工推出一項名為 「青少年家庭：Hold Me Tight® Let Me Go」的關係教育及增進聯繫活動 ，由英語堂的林卓 瑩弟兄統籌。

一同經歷神

• 在過去一年，很多事情發生在弟兄姊妹的個人生活上。有決志信耶穌及受浸的、回香港、 台灣和國內探親的，也有剛到達加拿大的。同時有患病的，有失去工作的，和有摯愛家人 離世的。北約作為屬靈的家，讓我們彼此同行分享歡笑和分擔眼淚。最近，我也聽到不同 的組別例如青年人、資深會友及新移民的心聲，他們都渴慕有靈裡的同行者，過於更多的 教會活動。

• 最後，我們慶祝粵語堂、英語堂和國語堂的弟兄姊妹在外展、傳福音和門徒訓練的真誠熱 情。在預示的不明朗經濟和政治對我們的影響下，讓我們紀念及堅守北約華人浸信會的目 的宣言：

北約華人浸信會是為榮耀上帝而存在，藉基督的福音祝福大多倫多地區，各堂會友按其特色同心建立相愛合一的信仰群體，造就基督門徒，培育屬靈成長，並與主內信徒合作，傳福音到本地和地極。
